I have been getting a lot questions from my clients regards to choosing the right location for their family session. If you have never had a family session or looking for some ideas for your next one, I hope this blog post will give you some ideas!
Outdoor
There are many locations that you can choose from when it comes to outdoor shooting. Some spots that you might consider would be parks, downtown and old town district areas, beaches, or a place that is special to your family; it can be a local playground, historic location, or even a trail. Outdoor locations provide natural lighting and a lot of space for creative posing. Please also take note there are some locations that require photo permit/fee.
Indoor
Have you considered having an in-home lifestyle family session? You can arrange an activity with your kids such as reading a book or baking cookies together while I capture those special moments! It is also great if you have small children/babies or pets (dogs & cats) and you would prefer to photograph with them at home! Alternatively if you are interested to have the session in a studio, I can help you to rent a studio space.
Questions that you can ask yourself if that location is suitable for your family
1) Will the place be a comfortable setting ? Will my kids feel comfortable in the environment?
2) Are you looking for a natural feel, something formal, or something stylish?
3) Would you like the location to be nearby your house or you don’t mind traveling?
Choosing the Time
Consider choosing a right time is also important for your session. For good lighting and less crowd, I would recommend morning time between 9am to 12 noon and afternoon 3pm until 1 hour before sunset.
